I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State. I am advised by Dr. David Almeida and assigned to the Work, Family, & Health Network lab. I am also a research assistant for the Center for Healthy Aging. I am primarily interested in caregiving, particularly the psychosocial, physical, and mental health implications of simultaneously balancing family care (especially ‘sandwiched’ care) and employment; double-duty caregiving in the extended care industry; employed caregivers’ perceived barriers to utilization of workplace programs and policies established to facilitate work-family balance in addition to their beliefs regarding the extent to which such policies suit their needs; and caregivers’ health behaviors or practices and health care utilization (e.g., screening and prevention). Other interests include factors that promote healthy aging; end of life issues; chronic disease management; and shared treatment decision making, communication, and patient satisfaction in the doctor-patient-family relationship.
